Recent Acquisitions-New Alaskan Pieces
I just got these in on Monday from Joel Castanza. I already had the two small Black Points, the Drilled Amulet, and the Bone Harpoon. The rest I got from Joel. He called these his "discards" but I am real happy with all of them.
The Ulu in the top right corner is huge, around 7 inches long and the Slate Knife below it is right at 6 inches. The Slate Celt just left of the big Knife has a really nicely polished bit and the big black Blade next to it is pretty nice too. The 3 Points below these are all broken, but would have been really nice if whole. There are also some Bone items like the two large Bone Tools in the bottom left corner and the pieces just above it that have been cut and polished. The stone piece right above the large Bone Tools is a Whetstone. The most interesting peices to me are the items in picture #6. Joel said these were used for tattooing. I also really like the two pieces of highly polished Ivory. There is a big piece in the last picture and a small one right above the Drilled Amulet.

Those are some really nice artifacts. It just amazes me how well people can adapt and use what resources are available to them if they need to. You must truly have an amazing collection. I bet your house is like walking into a museum. Cool frame.

If the visitor is nice I bet Steve would let them touch most of the pieces, and I'm quite sure he could tell you more about them than any museum.

I sure would. I love showing them off and would gladly accomodate anyone that wanted to see them. Or you could just come to the show in Ripley Ohio this Feb 19th and see my entire States Collection. I will have 4 tables set up there.

Nice looking artifacts Steve. And yes, Steve will let you touch his artifacts. Team Hartman had the pleasure of visiting Museum Valentine, and look forward to a return trip this year!

The Valentine Museum is a bit overwhelming. I must say. If you spend 5 seconds looking at each artifact you'd be there for over 19 hours.
