Agate Basin

Agate Basin Points in Texas

I found this 4" point in some water today and thought that it was another Angostura. But this article by John Garret has me questioning whether either of the points are Angostura. Neither have the oblique/parallel flaking, and today's find looks very much like Garret's.

I still think they look like Mahaffey points, said to be related to AB.

We call so many Texas points Angostura that people get to thinking it's a common form. Kind of like Plainview was, and still is, over used all over. IMHO the type site Angostura (Yuma) points are really nicer points than Agate Basin in the High plains.

They would probably call those Agate Basin a little further north. at least the bigger one.

The smaller one is really classy, maybe a Zella. It does have the MaHaffey shape.

Nice finds!
