100 Mile Clovis

Well after a few months of sitting here drooling over everbody's finds, finding mostly pieces and parts and hiking mile after mile I finally hit pay dirt.....big time. Thanks to an incredibly weird mild warm winter I have been able to hunt spots that normally I dont get to hunt until spring and then I usually don't have time to hit them all. This spot is actually a good friend and clients property that borders the Yellowstone River where a side channel and dry feeder creek join the main river. A couple of years ago while a neighbor was doing some stream bank restoration I noticed that there were layers of bone shards and charcoal coming out of the bank. I looked at the time and only found a few reduction and resharpening flakes. So today I took my boys down to let them fish and run around the river and thought I would check the bank and look for some petrified would if nothing else. When I got there the bank had taken a huge beating in last years record floods and I noticed that the campsite material was all gone. So I started looking down stream on the sand bar and the rest is history. If you look at a couple of photos you will see there are bones in the photos as well. Very well petrified, not sure what they are. This point is Obsidian and probably came out of Obsidian cliffs in nearby Yellowstone park about 20 miles away. I have been around and found obsidian points my whole life but never a paleo piece out of that material. Needless to say I am feeling unbelievably blessed.

Congratulations on an outstanding find.

Be sure to monitor that location as often
