In Situ "Unnatural" looking rocks in woods
Came across these hunting (deer) this past fall. They look odd to me. Some have rather symmetrical round holes in them up to a few inches deep. A couple look to my imagination like they could have been used thousands of years ago to put edges on blades (copper of course).
One is a grinding stone by my take - I did move that for picture and then left where is. I also have a boulder that has been chipped/flaked/edged whatever you call it - into "square edges" that align to soltice/equinox sunrises (no pictures but it is a big boulder and not going anywhere either). Lots of stuff going on in these parts post glacier retreat that could use additional study.
I've come across several fairly large "rock piles" 20x20ft or better right near springs (important in winter here in Wisconsin) that I think could be Archaic age habitation sites. These guys weren't stupid - they would have used stone to build "caves/rockshelters" on their own where they didn't occur naturally. All of them weren't living in the "known" rock shelters and ledges. Lets give them some credit - winters are still tough up here in modern days!
I left all of these rocks where they were - camoflauged them a bit so no rock hound would come take them.
