Stone pendant and black stone bead!

Good start to the year! We went out to our favorite sites after the downpour we had and what a find! Still trying to figure out what the black stone bead is made out of- it isn't steatite. And a stone pendant that was broke.
Thanks for looking!
Go RAIN!!

Cool finds the bead looks alot like soapstone that come from Catalina island. I've seen shaft straighteners and pipes made from it.

Nice finds T-T. You might get lucky and find the bottom of that pendant some day.

I told her to go find that bottom half of that pendant too! The black stone bead is definitely not steatite. I thought it was soapstone when she first found it, but it is much harder and crazy perfect! No noticeable beveling on either side. All I found was 2 clamshell and one tiny olivella beads.
I've about had it with these women finding all the good stuff...When will my day come?

Thumbs up

Women have eyes for detail..We have noticed that in our Stone Business...No surprise they see beads and the finer things too
Could that Basalt? Have you checked it with a magnet( it almost looks like Magnetite) Amazing amount of work in that piece whatever it is.

Good call with the magnet, Trask. I use neodymium magnets as a clasp for my Native American bead necklace. I tried it on this bead, and nothing. I do have a larger magnetite or hematite bead that is magnetic. We did notice that it is more black than the steatite beads I have found at this site.
