Acquisition from A Southeast Missouri Antique Mall. Made of Missouri Rhyolite and looks Old to me. Base isnt ground but its made very well and symmetrical.

I think it's something else, but not an etley. However, I have been wrong before. I think the true etleys are made from that non heat-treated white chert.
It's a pretty cool artifact though. It's not broken correct? And with that flat tip it may have been some type of scraper or knife. I am interested on some other peoples opinions that know more than myself. Sweet find though, thats for sure! |

Tip looks broken to me and IMO it's not an Etley but still is a good find. Thanks.

Its a broke (tip snapped off) or heartbreaker. I kind of agree it possibly being another type because it doesnt seem to be a resharpend or exhausted point (besides tip) and it doesnt have that recurved blade edge though putting another type on it isnt easy for me. The blade isnt beveled so that takes a few early archaic types out. Not a square stem really.
There are areas in Missouri that The Indians that made late archaic stemmed points just used what was local of course like Mozarkite or Rhyolite or Crescent Quarry Burlington. Back to point though I do think its A Late Archaic stemmed point (if authentic of course) hard to get flaking shot on this rough material. Thanks Nebo! |
