The last photo is what I call a "skimmer." My notion is that the rapid flow of waters causes some points to skim along rather than tumbling and then when the water rapidly drops they are deposited laying flat on top of the gravel. The "tumblers" tend to become embedded between gravel, etc. I look for the skimmers and my eagle eyed wife finds the embedded ones.
Interesting observations Bud. I have often thought of the same things.What really intrigues me is how Silica is lighter than the average Creek rocks.It is as if the flint floats it's way to the top of the gravel. Always like what the flint does to your Material There.Thanks for posting
