Bone Hook

I think this is only my second post, first regarding something I have found personally. I check the forums often, and felt I needed something quite impressive to kind of introduce myself to the outstanding community here at Arrowheadolgy.

Found this gem today near one of my more productive sites, that StonedAge was nice enough to share with me when I started hunting artifacts. My first point/artifact found was at this location. I was only able to hit one side of a long shell midden, due to it being separated by a channel of water coming off the lake, and into the bayous. However, my brother and I purchased a canoe yesterday, and went to the spot we could always see, but could not get to.

Needless to say, it paid off. This bone hook was our first find, 5 minutes into the new spot, by yours truly. Thirty minutes later my brother found a nice point maybe 100ft. from where I found the hook. I will try and get pictures of the point here later.

This site is rather large, and not easily accessible by foot, which makes for new stuff every time I go. So much pottery I only pick up pieces that have decoration of some sort (of which I have a ton of now), three trade pipe bowls so far, and tons of old bottles that floated up from the lake.

Hope you all enjoy looking at the hook, as I enjoyed finding it. Any tips on how to preserve it would be greatly appreciated. Would hate for this beauty to go to waste.

Do a search here on the board. There has been plenty of discussions on preserving. Email us at Lithic Art Restoration and we will send you a recipe using Duco glue an Acetone. It will only take few minutes on your artifact.
