Noway can you call that one broke! There is a lot of charactor in the life of that axe and what a beautifual area to be hunting. Looks like sping time conditions.

I agree, it looks like it seen continued use!
Thx N - I had to stand back and enjoy the view myself upon first discovery.

mano - Is nice to hear I'm not totally off base with my continued use theory. Most seem to agree. Thanks for backing me up on that one bud. The timing on this hunt was mid-August of last Summer, 2011.

Wow! I would have jump out of my socks seeing that axe sitting there with all those other rocks. Killer piece even with the damage. I like your posts they are always fun to read and you seem to find some great artifacts. Thanks for the show.

While I'm at it here on this particular thread, I thought I would add this maul find from the same stretch of shoreline as the axe shown in this same thread. This find was made ten years ago. Yikes! Is hard to believe that much time has passed by since then. Anyway, this two-tone colored maul was found probably within 30 feet of where the 2011 axe was found. These pics here are digital retakes of previously taken 35mm photo's, so please bear with me here on any pic quality issues.

The maul is shown here in this first shot as found below this large tree. My walking stick helps to point it out.

A bit closer up below.

Even closer up here showing the two-toned aspect of the stone this specimen is made from.

Maul after removal with coins as size reference (Indian Head Nickle & Sacajawea Dollar).
