scored pretty big today! close to home! (pic heavy) :)

Had an hour or so before the storms coming in today to hit a construction area within a few miles from home. I have done really well there in the past. Back in 99' as a kid i hit this same general place that was having homes built. I put together a pretty nice site collection in a couple frames from that place and I remember that I was the only footprints around. I was in middle school at the time and really should have hit it alot harder.

Well I had my chance to redeem myself today, there is a new area in that general location that was graded... was waiting on a couple friends to hit some shed antler hotspots out this way and decided to kill time trying to beat the rain and remembered that last week my sister told me that it was torn up out there.

Started hitting flakes all over the place in one general area and within 5 min saw a base barely sticking out of the dirt. Plucked it out and while i was doing so i thought that it was a broke because it necked down but it turned into an awesome complete drill!!!!! (sorry no insitu... at the time didnt think that it was much of anything)

THENNNN as im shouting a few expletives to myself and cleaning off the drill I look to my right and totally exposed ten feet away this KILLER!!! just a tip nick but paper thin and beautifully made. At this point i was wondering if i was dreaming and looking around to make sure noone was going to spot me on this goldmine!

INSITU

So I take the insitus of that point and get up off the ground and see another good couple chunks of flint....walk to them 5 feet or so away and BAM! plop out both pieces of a big ole hoe/knife/somesortatool. I couldnt believe it. (It went over 8 inches)

The pics are when I pulled them out of the dirt (again didnt know if they were anything at the time).....but you can see the holes in the dirt where they were laying when i pulled em out.

Within a minute or two saw a piece of hematite in the dirt and it was a damaged/unfinished plummet! Its nicely polished but looks like the top was anciently broken. But ill take it! any good piece of hematite is a treasure for me!

Go a couple more minutes finding flakes and the next point!!! looks like an exhausted possible dovetail. Awesome dark gray/red flint.

INSITU

What a great quick hunt! I couldnt have dreamed of it being any better really...well unless that hunt included the elusive clovis!

Its been raining like hell tonite and ill surely be back out there in the morning and from here on out. It really bugs me that I did notice that the area was torn up 6 months ago. Oh well i cant wait for more rain and more grading...I have a great feeling about this spot!

It just goes to show that you never never know where you will find points, even if its in the "city"

and an odd thing the base of the drill seems to be fluted (basal thinning?) and ground...any ideas on type?

Man those are nice! Love the drill, and the point with the tip nick. Are these grader operators blind? Good for you that they don't pay attention.
