My 1st Scotty

I bought this Scottsbluff from a meber here on this site and got it in the mail today. I love it. I've always loved Scottsbluffs but I have never owned 1. It is kinda small but super well made it was found in Polk county Texas. Does anybody know what the material is?

Chris

That is a dandy. Can't help you on the material. I don't have enough knowledge of local Texas cherts.

Great point argo, Large or small those things are hard to find. Looks like Trinity river cobble.

The province I got on it was that it came from close to the Trinity river, so that makes sense. Thank you for your input. I know nothing about that area.

Looks like material from the Bastrop/LaGrange area. Landscapers call it "Bull Gravel" and it's found in the many gravel pits in that area.

Sweet! Mark Adams' more recent scottsbluff is made out of that material I think and also found near the trinity area. You might check his out if you haven't all ready. All in all that's a sweet little Scotty. Congrats!

Glad you like the Scotty! The material is the bull gravel from the Colorado River drainage. I can't quite recall the name most people give it, but Mark Adams can tell you. Quite a lot of Paleo and Early Archaic points found in East Texas are made from it. It was apparently very popular material. Definitely killer stuff. JN
