plowed field action 2/6

my best camp got planted with grass over the cornstalks last november. i did some research on planting corn in missouri, and i think the grass puts nutrients back in the soil for the next corn crop this spring. the problem is grass stops a lot of erosion, which does not help my cause.

its been 2 and 1/2 months since my last trip to this camp. the water was a little higher than normal, because it rained over the weekend.

here we go, down the rabbit hole.....

cruised 2 miles and then up a creek where i parked on a gravel bar. 15 feet from the boat was this translucent dickson missing its point:

i knew the field was gonna be grassy, but had decided to check it out anyway. a quarter mile into the field i saw this:

talk about getting your heart pumping! whew. its a stemmed knife with a corner missing from the base. i was hoping it was a huge spear, but no such luck.

PART 2 several posts below-these guys are faster than me!

One in the river/creek, and on in the field! I'd say that's a good day!

That knife in situ pic is great.

Hard to believe the grass is that green and growing in MO in early February.

YES! score. if this field is fresh plowed and it rains, 20 plus brokes and a couple gooders would not be unusual. i figured on maybe finding a couple brokes with the grass growing, but it worked out better than i had hoped for.

man thats about all you could ask for in a day.

it sure is awesome going upstream under power in these smaller rivers.

Great day Willy! Thats a great field. I can say no one i know plants grass but it must work. Figured it would at least be wheat if the nutrients are going to be used. That knife is a heartbreaker but still awesome!

Great hunt and finds. Glad to see the white one come out whole for you. Hope you get that gully washer that you're needing before that grass really takes off.
