is this axe archaic?

Hi. I'm new to this site and also new to artifact identification. this was found at a site where i find many archaic points but also some adena. i think. can any one tell me if this is archaic. It looks crude to me but I guess that doesn't necessarily mean older. thanks.

Can you show a picture of the blade area? I have a feeling that's not really an "Axe" as far as the true meaning of the word. It looks to me to be more of a Hoe or a Digging Tool of some kind. Still a very nice find though,

It looks more like a hoe than an ax it is still a nice find If it is a hoe it is Ft ancient time frame. Now in Ohio there are chipped flint axes but yours dose not look to be flint and the time frame or culture on them is unknown.

Here's some Hoes I have found here in southern Ohio. If you look at the second row on the far left you will see one just like yours. These are made from Waverly Sandstone and yours may be as well.

As for them being strictly Ft Ancient, I don't think that's 100% correct. I have found a couple of those on Ft Ancient sites but the bulk of them have come from predominately Archaic sites.

great info, I think you are right about the material. I didn't realize agriculture was so old here. Do you know what was raised?
