hello!..i'm fairly new at checking out the online artifact sites, but not new to collecting!!..i live in the willamette valley in oregon..my passion is for stone tools..i'm lucky enough to live on an old river-bed and have found LOTS of tools (mostly food preparation and wood-working tools, since camas bulbs and nuts were staple foods here..and of course, the northwest has lots of trees)..i have farm fields all around me and several rivers and creeks near me..so i enjoy hunting the streams and fields, and especially being able to find stuff right in my own yard!..a few months ago my husb was leveling our drive-way to re-gravel it..he scraped off only about 6 inches or so, but uncovered the old riverbed and i immediately started finding pestles, nutting stones, choppers and tons of hammerstones..unfortunately, he's intent on landscaping our property and is NOT at all down with me digging up the drive-way and yard (he's constantly saying "stop bringing the drive-way into the house!" lol..i think i've found all i can on my property without digging and have to be content with hunting the fields and streams..now that the weather is cold and wet and the fields are all planted with winter wheat, i guess i'll just be looking at other's finds online..nice to see there's someone from my part of the country on here!!!

thank you for all the warm welcomes!!..i'm not very computer savvy, but i'm trying to learn how to re-size pics (husb installed some kind of pic re-sizer thing on my computer and when i upload one, it comes out HUGE)..i guess i'll have to have him show me how cuz i can't seem to figure it out on my own and it's getting me soooo frustrated!!..as soon as i've done that i'll be happy to start posting them..i've found lots of things that i have no idea what they are and am hoping someone on here might know..so far i haven't found one single arrowhead..just a few scrapers that i picked up becuz they were "pretty rocks"..then after looking at some scrapers on here, i realized what they were! lol..i guess i'm beginning to get the bug for looking for other things besides my favored hardstone tools!!..i've been up thru monmouth and dallas..very pretty, hilly country there..astoria and st. helens are in northern oregon, aren't they??..i'm down near junction city..we moved here about 4 years ago after living in florida for 20 years..i'm STILL getting used to the chilly weather, but love the few times a winter that we actually get snow here in the valley!!..the willamette river is huge and whenever i can, i get my son-in-law to take me out in his boat so i can search the gravel bars..is it still good hunting even in the winter when the river is higher??

Your in a prime area and YES winter hunting can be very productive in the winter...Upper Willamette should be very good hunting ..I'd be hunting where the rivers come together..Mac, Willamette, Fall Creek ect...Resivors should be good too...Dexter comes right to mind..

'course there is always the driveway too
There is a site on your property for a reason...Figure out the reason and your onto a wonderful addiction

i live near fern ridge resavoir..not supposed to hunt there, but they drain the lake every winter and i once took a walk in the mud and muck and found a river cobble that had a indent pecked into one side and then looked like it had been thrown in the fire..that's what got me started looking!!..the drive-way was just a very happy accident!!

Why can't you hunt Fern Ridge? I bet No one will bother a lady collecting pretty rocks...Go up into the canyon a little ways too.
