Central Texas odd artifacts?
First post!
I used Texas Vet benefits to get a 10 acre "ranch" in East-Central Texas located in the Blackland Prairie region between the San Gabriel and Little Rivers. It has flint nodules all over the place, most with chunks chipped out. So far I haven't found a point but the below pictures have me curious as to whether they are artifacts. The first was found on the surface. It is about 1.5 inches long by 1 inch wide with a rounded front edge that looks like a scraper of some sort and looks worked to my untrained eye. (labeled flint scraper) The second one is a near perfect semi-circle notch in flint. I found this one digging in a creek bed on the property. (labeled flint semi circ) So, am I dreaming or do these look like tools of some sort? Thanks! JohnG |

first one could be a tool
But as far as the others, I'd have to say no.
Keep on digging & looking! |

I think the first is a scraper and the 2nd is possibly a fragment of a notched, polished piece.

Thanks for the responses. It seems the consensus was the first was an artifact, and the second, not likely. For the second, I just wanted to throw out one theory - I could imagine that the 2nd semi-circle notch could have been used as an arrow shaft tool, given it's diameter corresponds to some of my arrow shafts. (smoother?) Thoughts?
