Hematite Piece?
Any opinions on this piece of hematite? It's heavily polished on all six sides. Around 2" x 2.5" or so, around .5" thick.

It could be polished as an artifact in it's own right or polished as hematite was rubbed off of it for use as paint.

I will defer to bar weight but only because that is good as anything. It definitely a "finished" piece and the maker did it right. Nice whatever you wish to call it.

Thanks for weighing in fellas, I appreciate your comments and opinions. Atlatl weight is a good possibility I think, and one I'd overlooked. When I first picked it up I expected to see spot marks at least for drilling, gorget or pendant preform is what I was thinking. It seems to be too evolved to just be a red ochre rubstone. I tend to agree now that it's in a finished state of production and Barweight does make the most sense. Again, thanks for the help.

Beautiful find for sure! If it was an atlatl weight, would the whole piece just be wrapped in sinew for binding?
