It seems light weight and I can not feel or see any flaking I have a few agate points and none of them look or feel like this or maybe this point is just weathered ? I looked at it with a magnifier and its grainy and feels like sandpaper

Dennis,

No offense, but are you sure it's good? It really looks like an agate in chalky matrix that has been soaked in acid. The way you describe the feel is the way rock feels when etched.

I guess you would need to hold it in your hand I'm sure its good. I was thinking a lot of heat may changed it came off the surface of a cry and I hunt with this guy a lot over the last 30 years or so it was part of a trade unless he soaked it in hydrofluoric acid thats one of the few that will attack silica based material. But it feels to light to be agate.

Coral now you might be on the right track a lot of shell artifacts came out of this same area The problem with my friend is a lot of his finds ride in his trucks console for months on end then he tries to remember where he found it.

A little more info the point was found along camp creek El Dorado County Ca near sly park reservoir so might be a sierra contracting stem type.

It looks a lot like petrified wood from Hubbard Basin Nevada.
