We own a ranch off of FM 230 in East Texas about a mile north of Weldon, Texas. I have found many interesting pieces there but never anything resembling an arrowhead.
I know this is petrified palm wood but the shape seems to have been chipped. I found this in a shallow creek at the back of a pasture. I've never looked specifically for arrowheads. We just love finding the interesting rocks. I'm wondering if this is some type of native american artifact, beginnings of an arrowhead, etc. Maybe we should be looking for points instead of just the pretty rocks!? Does anyone have any clues? |

I do think this is a stone knife or at least an incomplete one and that you need to be looking for points there.
Show us what you find

Looks like it has been worked to me. I live pretty close to your ranch, about 3 miles from the Estelle unit. Good luck searching!

I found one or two more items this weekend. Good grief was it HOT! I thought it was funny that my uncle said, "Didn't you know your grandfather was part indian?". My grandfather had very dark skin. But never spoke of being part indian to me. I also know the land has been in our family for many generations. I plan on trying to do more research on that. Can anyone point me in the direction of what to look for when searching? Is it all just random? It seemed that about 2 ft. down there was more of a layer of rocks, etc. It's hard to make any sense of how to search or what to look for. This creek/gully is in the middle of very large sloping pastures... 30 acres or more on each side. Maybe these items just washed in the creek over the years. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks!

Thanks Rick--It's so hot, I doubt we will be coming that way anytime soon. The house on the farm is pretty old and harder to keep cool all day long. I did find out there must have been an old indian encampment along the Trinity River. There is a dirt road that goes towards the river beside the old store in Weldon. Evidently a man bought all the property along the Trinity back in that area. My mom said people use to arrowhead hunt on property back there at Hyde lake in the 40's and 50's. We used to play along the river on property my grandfather owned back in that area. It's long gone now though. When we come back I'll try to give you a call. ~meleah
