Your thoughts?

I was wondering what you guys thought of this. Blade? Preform? Age? It's real thin for its size and it's got some pretty large removal flakes on both sides. It doesn't really have any noticeable use wear that I can tell. I've just never really been able to pin down what it is.

That is too well flaked to be a Preform. I'd say a finished Blade and a very nice one at that.

I find some that are similar in SW Arkansas. The ones I find are usually made of Novaculite.I think they were used as knives but could easily be converted into points if needed. They seem to be with Archaic and Woodland pieces.I know that's a broad timeframe.Yours is flaked well so I would think Archaic on it.

Good looking Blade.
It looks like a "Hare Bi-Face,Late Archaic-Woodland.//JMO
Note:The Excurvate sides and Percussion Flake removals.

I'd also agree that it was used as is. It may have originally been planned to be further refined but there's quite a bit of hinge/step/stack action going on there and they may have just stopped right there to have a nice blade.

It looks like it was used as an unhafted handheld tool (everything from cutting to scraping to piercing) and with minor alteration it could be stemmed for atlatl or spear use. I agree with John in time period and application. Very nice artifact.
