Hi Dennis, I've been looking at your point for some time now.....and am wondering if the base actually has had the ears clipped off? Do you have a photo looking end on at the base? If the base is original, maybe it could be a Parawon? Nice artifact.

manoman I will try to get a close up end on in the morning I was thinking it was just rounded off with a small chip or break on one edge of the base.

Looks like you have a nice Gatecliff there Dennis!!! Is that mahogany obsidian point there a AppleHill, those points you find their should have their own name!!! However, this one looks a little different!

Thanks for doing that Dennis. I was hoping that by suggesting that maybe your point had ears at one time it would be easier for you to identify it.

Its definitely had some impact fractures to it....I bet at one time the tip was just as pointed as your red Gunther....looks like some damage to the stem...so it could be Elko,Gatecliff or even from the Rosegate cluster

I found a tiny tri-flow side notch point at a site near Camino a couple of years back. It has been resharpened to the near exhaustion, but I saved it because of the material. For some reason there have been some exotic, and undoubtedly traded, materials found along the belt that runs through Yuba, Placer and El Dorado Counties at elevations from 1500 to 2500'. I have yet to find any mahogany, but you never know. I also call Dennis's point a Gatecliff with modification. It is a distinct possibility that completed points were also in the trade mix because some styles that are non-typical to this area occasionally found.

It may also be a Rabbit Island dart.
