Adz / small hoe?
I found this piece in a dry creek bed near the Santa Monica Mts, in Southern California. I was thinking maybe a small adz or hoe, but really have no clue. It is about 4 in long by 2 in wide. It looks like there is some mortar or clay on the under side connecting the vertical piece to horizontal piece. Just started rock hunting out here in So Cal, so any help would be awesome. Thanks guys.

Looks more like a geofact to me, or maybe a fossilized something.

Looks like a piece of weathered Limestone to me. Not an artifact.

Does resemble a fossil. Probably geofact.

HW Flyfisher...Welcome from a fellow West coaster
![]() Not much beatin' round the bush round here...Pretty sure you have something that looks like an artifact but is Naturally shaped..Thus GeoFact...If your new to hunting rocks/artifacts you won't find many places with more free and credible advice than here. Keep posting your finds even if your unsure about what it is

Welcome to the site Hollywood. I am with the rest of the members on this one. I was thinking fossil but maybe a geo fact.
Don't get discouraged though because everyone starts out not knowing. If someone does think they know everything from the start they won't stick to this hobby for long. They usually post a few rocks, not get the praise they are looking for and we never see them again. You will get a straight answer here with no sugar coating. Keep looking and you will find something and after you find that something you will be hooked like the rest of us and it will get easier to locate and spot those somethings. I take kids every chance I get and I am asked all day "Is this something?" and by the end of the day my brain hurts. I would take them again the next day and start all over because when they do find something you can't describe the look on their face when you finally get to tell them Yeah its and arrowhead.

Thanks everyone for the kind welcome and for your thoughts. I try not to let my imagination get too carried away when I find a strange looking rock but this one really got me curious. The more I look at it seems that it is probably vain of hard rock that was surround by a softer stone. When the softer stone eroded it left this interesting shape. I've got a few more finds that I could use some advice on. I'll try and post some pics here shortly. Thanks again.
