Wood working tool, fleshing tool ?

Opinions from those more experienced than I. I found this about a year ago maybe a mile from the house on a gravel bar in a feeder creek that has produced artifacts from paleo to woodland. Not sure but I think the lithic is a form of silicified shale. It's 3" long and 3" wide from one side to the blade"s edge. It tapers from the sides ( 3") to 1.5 inches at the blade edge. It has a ridge and a stress crack. It has been groved out which fits the thumb perfect but I don't know if that grove was to mount it on a piece of wood. Any Ideas ? Thanks.

Looks like a geofact to me. We've got a lot of shale here, and it's common for it to be angled like that.

Dandy Rock. Any rock will fit perfect in your hand if you turn it enough times.

Thanks for the feedback. I should not have posted it. ALL the tools I have found in Up State South Carolina( scrapers, blades, hoes, spades, etc.) are made from some type of silicified slate, granite, some rhyolite, and a lot of quartz. From a geological prespective there is NO flint here, therefore, no flint points or tools which is what most of the folks on this forum are used to finding ( and chert ). My bad.
