Mojave Jr....

Well the fish weren't biting this Christmas break so my 7 year old decided he wanted to look for fossils. I emailed Lewis for suggestions and he gave me directions (many thanks!) to a wonderful place. It was a bit of a drive but it was a lot of fun. We met several other folks out doing the same thing. One older gentleman gave my son what he called a "mosasaur" vertebrae. I know nothing about bones and such but it went into the pocket. Here are some pics. The first is the "what is it." Buffalo? Cow? Horse?
We picked up a bunch of fossilized shells and bits of stuff. The last pic was my highlight. A bit surprising but cool. In 2-4 inches of water.
No shark teeth like we were hoping for but we had a great time.

Yep. Never got more than a few hundred yards away though. We were there for about 3 hrs. That was the first time in my life I ever walked in a waterway like that. Next time I'll have some appropriate boots/waders and do some real damage.
That was all for the boy though....

Did you know the older couple that was out there. I mentioned Lewis' name and the guy recognized it but I didn't catch his name. Said he hadn't seen Lewis in 5 years. Nice folks...

Glad y'all had a good time. Nice shell bead, BTW!! Got any pics of the other bones? That first tooth is either bison or cow; hard to tell from the side you posted. That bridge is one of my favorite spots!

I'll take pics of the other stuff when I can.
I need to find a place like that a little closer to home. Too much sitting in traffic....
