Another Axe or Hoe?

Another is it a hoe or an axe. This piece is from western Tn., pretty sure it's Buffalo River chert material. This piece came with a group of points and drills from Tn. and Al. that I recently acquired. All the flint is no brainer good so I've got a pretty good feeling about the authenticity of this piece but I'm not 100% on it. I'm not really familiar with this style of tool and don't know what category it falls into. Any info would be great.

Odd shape and it kinda looks like it has been re-chipped on sides and rear, particularly in the second pic. Could be pic but patination looks different. jmho

I think that's because those areas are angled to the sun and picking up light. It has a pretty even patina except for a couple dings that show a much lighter material. I agree with you, it does have an odd shape for a Tn. axe or hoe. I'm about 50 - 50 on it. No great loss if it's a fake.

I'm thinking hoe seems to make the most sense for this one. But then again, if actually an axe, then about the niftiest design on one of those I've seen in a long time.

Very interesting piece indeed ,
From the pics it looks like it is a
chert cortex material , ie . ( grainy )
with the shape of a larger adze ? Scraper ?
Looks nice in collection !

Thanks for weighing in fellows, your opinions are appreciated. Still up in the air here. I found some somewhat similar pieces from further west like Bowtie axes, and notched hoes doing some research.
