Far West Type ?
The three amigos were found in the same 2'x 2'x 2' foot deep hole from the apple hill California site But the black obsidian base caught my attention any thoughts on type ? The last photo is top side showing thickness . I know theres not much to go on .

I think I asked you about that far left point earlier this week. It has a very unique appearance to me. My familiarity is eastern Sierra material. I think that far left point is archaic. The mid section in the middle looks like it may be upside down. If so and the basal haft edges are ground then I would say it looks like a Haskett base. Is it ground? The far right base I am not sure. From the pics tough to see. Are those large thinning flakes? Is it ground? If not maybe just a blade base. Looks unfinished from pics.
Hopefully western CA folks like GBM, fly junkie, erb, high sierra and nyatt can chime in on that far left point. |

Dennis, I'd been noticing how similar your finds have been to those we have here along the north coast. My first view of these brings me pause. They look different. Is this the feeling you are getting, also ? That you might be getting into another time period ? |

We call those crude ones, "Short Bus Points", made by "challenged" local Maidu and Miwuk. Looks like they beat two rock together to make some semblance of a tool. LOL Haskett won't be found on the West Slope, but most odd points can be attributed to poor workmanship and lousy material choice. What are found locally, though, are Cascade and Humboldt, both early archaic types.
