Newbie - needs help
Hello, My name is Bob of course. I live in Bedford County Pa. I've been heavily into Metal Dectecting for the past 20 years and from time to time I would come across a point or something else I thought may have been a Relic. I was lucky enough to come across this great site a week or so ago and have been checking things out everyday. I have also purchased several books to help identify finds. For the past month I've been looking every Saturday for points or whatever I could find without my Metal Detector. Today I came across these two items and would like your input as to what I may have, geofact or ? The first piece is sharp on the edge looks to me like it may have been worked but I'm not sure. The second is rather interesting it's 5/8 inches long by a half inch wide. With a nearly perfect hole through it. I'm not sure of the type of stone. Maybe hematite, it has little "sparkles" in it and appears to be polished. Any input you have would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much, Bedfordbob

The first piece doesn't look like it has any pressure flaking along the edge and is probably just a large flake. It does have one edge that looks sharp and may have been used as a knife.
The second piece looks like it has been drilled and could either be a Bead that has broken through the side or a piece of a Pipe stem.

Thanks so much for the answer Steve. I read up on pressure flaking last night and now have a better idea on what to look for. There is a lot for me to learn. Thanks again, BB

Your first piece is more than likely a removal from a preform that would eventually have been a ground tool/item of some sort.

Welcome to the forum, Bob. I have metal detected for many years. Found a few points while out detecting, and kinda got hooked on looking for them. I just like finding stuff from the past, historic or prehistoric.
Good luck to ya, Dave
