Hello all!
My name is Shane and I've just gotten into searching for artifacts (seriously), this year. I've walked fields and creeks for years, but until this spring I never really gave it a good effort. After meeting some new friends, I've learned more about where to look and when to look... I'm a long time lurker on this site and finally decided to start my own thread. I live in the southwestern Ohio area and hunt Ohio, PA, Indiana, Kentucky and frankly anywhere else I travel to! I'm a technology nerd for a living, so I used my tech skills to create an online inventory of my "better" personal finds. This is fair and good, but I need your help! I might know technology, but I am NO expert in correctly ID'ing artifacts!!! If you click on the link below, you will see I have tried to identify my lithics with the following criteria: Artifact # (Inventory number) Type: (Bifurcate, hafted scraper, crude knife, etc.) More info: (generally a link to more information about the type of point) Material: (Granite, hornstone flint, etc.) Period: (how long ago it may have been made) Size: (dimensions of the piece) Condition: (Broken? oddly shaped? Or any additional notes) Found: (County, state and date found) So, please help! If possible, please reply to this thread saying something like "Artifact # 0004" is definitely ______ flint and this type of ____. See what I mean? Or, if you can, simply add a comment below the picture. Once I have received some information, I will update the artifacts' fields with the CORRECT information ![]() Here's the link: Picasa Web Albums - Shane Murray - Lithic Inventory Any and all help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance! Shane (flintseeker) PS - Check back at my site often, I intend to update it, as soon as more decent finds come my way! |

I'm only 36, but I'd like to pass this collection to my children one day. I know it's not a huge or "priceless" collection to date, but I'm proud of them and plan to keep walking until I'm "pushin' up daisies"! So, can anyone chime in our my finds? Point types? Types of materials used? Archaic, woodland, etc? It would mean alot! Thanks for the warm greetings everyone! Shane |
