Southern Newb Checking In

Hey guys(and gals), good to see such a great forum you've got here and glad to be apart of it.
I've been hunting the rivers and creeks of S.E. Louisiana/S.W. Mississippi for over twenty years and owe it all to my Uncle for getting me started.
Mostly hunt for Petrified Wood but I'd be lying if I said that pet was my driving force. Lets be real, it's all about the heads.
I've always walked gravel lined rivers and creeks for my finds, but thanks to your site, I started my first dig two weeks ago! Nothing but chert but I'm stoked about digging and ready to get back at it.

Hey thanks Lilly, it's been super dry here also. The rivers are low, exposing more gravel which is good, but the poor plants suffer.

Thanks Bro, I've got some family in Missouri and have scored many a necklace bead out of your creeks.
Here's some pics of my first dig. Can't wait to go back and score(it's my land for the record).

Thanks for the welcome Mark. I have a friend in Leroy whom I traded a nice stash of petrified wood for this baby.

Thanks Chad. Last time I was in Northern Texas(2000) there was heavy snow on top of cactus and I was amazed. I kept a pad and it still thrives today.

OK, enough of the lagniappe pics....here is the head that means the most to me. 1st whole point, found in my mid to late teens.
I had hunted solely for wood and crinoids up until I found this bad boy. Changed my life.
I'm not familiar with the types yet, could someone help me out with that.

Wow, you are digging your own cave.....have you found anything in that space yet? Much easier to dig there. Rocks, rocks, and more rocks here.
Be well and have fun.

Funny. It started out as a dig for heads. We were so happy to see the red clay/sand mix in there which is great for a base, we decided to make this the new camp spot we called "the Cave".
I haven't scored on my land yet, but I know it's only a matter of time.
My neighbor has been digging for years and I had no clue what he was up to.
Thought he was digging for gold or something.
Finally talked to him about it and now I know what he's been up to. I like to pass out from what I was hearing, and the one around his neck.....lets not go there.
He said,"Look up on your hill, I use to find'em all over there way back when".
(the concept of digging for arrowheads was completely foreign to me, I walked gravel beaches my whole life)
