Howdy from S.E. Louisiana

Hello from the land of gators,crawfish, bayous,and the N.O.Saints! I have lived here my whole life and grew up on bayou Bonfouca hence the name. I have been hunting artifacts on and off for about 30 years with the past 7 years being much more on than off. My great uncle Albert Raney in N.W. Arkansas got me interested when I was a child and have loved it ever since.
I look forward to getting to know some of you. I will hopefully be posting some pics of a few of my finds soon.

Welcome Bonfouca. It is good to see someone else from Louisiana. While you live near the Tchefuncte River, I'll bet St. Landry & Avoyelles Parishes have more Tchefuncte stuff. Do you find any Tallahatie quartzite in your area?

Jim, I do not find much Tallahatie, but I do find a lot of Tchefuncte. I also find a fair amount of Poverty Point. I live on the N.E. shore of Lake Pontchartrain which 5000 years ago was the coast line of the Gulf of Mexico, so I am fortunate to have a good mix of cultures where I do most of my hunting. I am rather ignorant to stone types and many other aspects of the artifacts I find (always tryin to learn more), but I am the best artifact hunter I know thats not a boast thats just because I only know 3 others, and they are all kids. HA HA

I have seen photos of some really nice Poverty Point and archaic stuff coming from the lower Pearl years ago. As you know lots of people have been moving across the lake especially since Katrina. Check new housing developments overlooking the Pearl swamps & other local bayous. 99% of the lithics I find are local cherts. Good luck!
