New from Ohio
Hi All, Just joined. I now live back in Ohio and have renewed my interest in arrowhead hunting. I am currently scoping out places here that I can hunt and any info or advice would be appreciated.
Here is the first point I've ever found ( of only two, Other is an Ohio point), found an unfinished point and a blank (correct word?) from Texas as well. This was found in Texas, any opinions on style, type, origin, etc... welcome. I am a complete novice, but I'm pretty sure it's Chert and bi-facially knapped, with part of the original sliver (correct word?) unworked. I like how the point is dark, the edges are still quite sharp and finely serrated. The only flaw is one of the backward tips ( word?) is broken off and the point may be chipped as well, 1 11/16" L x 5/8" W. Thanks for looking, Kyle |

Texas unfinished 4 1/8 "L x 3 1/16"W.
A guy I met who is a knapper in Texas, said it looked like an unfinished larger type point, can't remeber exactly what he said, but approximated the finished point to about half the size of what is there, You can kinda see why it was discarded as it looks like the maker ran into a few areas where he kept chipping at the Chert and the Chert had these two little 'knot' areas that were resisting his attempts to knapp at them, you can see where many, succesive knapps were made without being able to wear the areas down. |

Welcome.
I'm not sure if you mean the first point (the good one) is from Texas or not. It was bifacailly worked but started on a flake (sliver.) The "backwards tip" is a shoulder. It looks like it is likely an arrowhead rather than a dart tip. A very nice point! The big round one looks like the beginnings of a preform. The last one could be jsut about anything I guess. |

Thanks for the terminology. "The last one could be jsut about anything I guess." It's got some pretty prominent serrated tips, but yeah, not much of a point. Oh, Are Ohio points predominantly made from Flint? |
