New to the Group, saying hi

Hey all. Great site, and glad to join. I'm addicted to GB obsidian, and have a bit of Col River materials too. Happy to field questions about obsidian if there are collectors out there that may be a bit shy of this material. Obsidian is one of my fav conversation topics, and an amazing lithic material. Also interested in Fl materials, particularly agate and post contact. And, of course, I like everything else from anywhere !!! Ray

Ray,

Welcome from the mouth of the Columbia.
Great to have another Basin Fan on board..there is a good collection of Nw and Great basin knowledge here that keeps me coming back daily...some of the only people who really "understand" my obsession are here...

Where abouts are you located? I've done a number of hunts with collectors met through this board and am always interested in likeminded collectors in our area.

Hi, thanks for the reply. I now live in Seattle. Grew up in Casper Wyo, and scrounged about arrowheading as a kid. Wish I had known what was going on back then! Parents took us kids camping all along the Platte River. (Type site for the Eden, and many buffalo jump sites, were all over the place.) It would be great to get out and look some more.

Wish we had a good collecting club/organization out here. The guys back east have all sorts of artifact shows that are a blast to go to. One of my favs is the Live Oak Florida show.

We just have to find enough NW folks and get them together...This is a good place to gather, plan and share. I'm liking the fact that this forum has a large and ever growing group of Western and NW members. It's fun to be able to see pictures from member Hunts around the Great Basin..especially when I can only get out into the good sage every few months.

You finding any good areas close to you Ray? I have relatives in Chehalis and have heard some good stuff about Packwood/Randal area for artifacts.

If I were in Seattle I might be looking at BC for weekend trips..especially Frasier River area.

Welcome aboard! Don't find any obsidian here in Wisconsin but I did find several flakes of obsidian at one Woodland site, I also know of one other collector that found a piece of it at a site here in Wisconsin! That stuff got around!
