Earl North Mississippi

I'm sheepish, I forgot to do this.

I live near Oxford Ms, have two daughters. Despite the name, I'm female. It's a joke-someone at work started calling me Trouble for some reason, and it somehow because Earl as we decided that was 'redneck' for trouble. Because every Earl we know, trouble comes with. Not that "Earls" are bad-just trouble.
I hunted arrowheads as a kid at my greatgrandmother's near Banner Ms, which is like a center for petrified wood and artifacts apparently. Now thanks to a pulp wood company, most of those places are-that I knew about anyway-are gone.

We have horses, dogs, cats (youngest is a future cat lady is why it is catS not cat). I knit, I read. I watch way too much TV, usually when I should be sleeping.

My oldest daughter found some broken pieces of well, the only thing I'm sure of what it was is a bit of pendant, and the two of them are very anxious to go looking for more-we were fossil hunting. They wanted to spend the summer shopping. Seriously. I have horses, therefore I have no money. (I do love a fossil, some more then others-those plentiful "Indian Beads" that are actaully a piece of stem from a sea lilly-crinoids, I love them. Insanely.)

I have a job. I'm not especially enamored of it, mostly all it's got going for it now is it pays well and is not entirely useless.

I love horse racing. And horses. Did I say I like horses?

Anyway. I'm feeling bad for not thinking of looking for arrowheads with my daughters, I was fortunate as a kid-my greatgrandmother had a creek in front of her house, and many fields were frequently plowed, and she also knew where to go. I don't have them, and haven't for a long time.

At least I made them look for fossils and learn what it was they were finding. I suppose they think it will be easier with arrowheads. Please.

Weird you ask, I so totally DO like horses!

As for weird being called Earl-my name is unisex, and I hate it. At least Earl is one side or the other.

I feel ashamed, a friend and I went to a place to 'hunt', and we chickened out.
You have to go through this brush tunnel-about 1 mile of it, I don't have to crouch as I am vertically challenged, she isn't and had to crouch just a little.
We saw a cotton mouth a bit away looking at us rather boredly, kept going, and then I saw a chicken snake in a tree. Very pretty with it's yellow spots looking down at me (well, probably it could care less about me) and I started thinking.

There's a snake in the tree. It's harmless unless you don't see it and it falls on you and you die from a snake landing on you.

So. I'm looking, about to take a picture, and I start thinking.
Cotton mouth back there.
Snake in tree. About 3/4 a mile to go to the open area, which is thick underbrush...I'm sweating, it's pretty warm. We're in a swampy sort of place even though it's dusty now.

This is not the best idea we've ever had. While we were standing there discussing snakes in trees, and how we'd been worried about the brush up ahead, so wore thick rubber boots (I'm pretty sure they can bite through that. But we felt prepared.) her husband called screaming I CAN NOT BELIEVE YOU TWO.

He can believe us. What he can't believe is that we managed to not tell him what we were doing so he could stop us at a more sensible time. He thinks he made us come back.
We'd already chickened out and were discussing how we were going to get out without the multitudes of cotton mouths we had become positive were in the trees killing us.
Turns out the threat of being humiliated by him getting the Ranger to come get us made us brave the gabillion cotton mouths that were hissing viciously in those trees.

What's funny is, I'm not really scared of snakes, as long as I see them, or don't see them at all. I had even had thoughts about catching the chicken snake and taking it home to put under my tack shed to keep out poisonous snakes and mice. (works beautifully. Also keeps people from borrowing my tack.)

First real 'hunt' for arrowheads (or stuff) and I chickened out. It wasn't well thought out on our parts, we should've gone way earlier but it was too cold then.

Aren't you glad you have more women here now?

(so we went to a Arrowhead and Artifact show in Oxford. I personally don't get buying them, but I loved looking at them-and I did buy something. A broken piece of pottery that's a dog head. I'm sure I paid too much, but I love my dog head. It's creepy. I guess if you're willing, it's not too much. I was surprised at the amount of shark teeth there-and how rare it was that they were labeled correctly, and all of them rare teeth. So many rare teeth, so valuable, I should've brought the cigar box full of those rare teeth and made out like a bandit. Enjoyed it though, my friend who has a ton of points and things-including one I'm going to steal as it has crinoids in it, and it's broken, she's blackmailing me with the thing-bought some shadow boxes, and I also got a book. In addition to my rocking creepy dog head. I think I'll name him Tim Curry. Or Christopher Walken. Or the Joker.)

I'm glad I found this place, I was trying to figure out what our bits might be, the little red thing, I wanted to see if I could find what it came off of, or whatever, and found here.
And now I'm all babbling like an idiot.
