You really do not need to drive that far from your location to find artifacts in Missouri.

In a three year period (late 1960's) I found a substantial amount of artifacts in Johnson County, Mo. along the Black Water River.

Of course at that time there was no such thing as no-till farming and I would imagine that it will now be more difficult to gain access to hunt farmland.

I've found a couple things here in my area. I am just really interested in the area around the ozarks. I really love to explore and I have never been to the ozarks. So it was just a long time coming trip I have wanted to plan.

Ill have to check out that area your talking about.

jmalone be very careful about hunting around the Osage river do not go into or park along the gravel roads at bridges you might get a visit you do not want to have from the local law enforcement or game warden seems most land owners do not like the park and go anymore , i had a bad experience in a spot that i had hunted for twenty plus years luckily i was courteous to the lawman and got a verbal ear beating and had to wait to see if i was gonna get a ticket and i did receive a phone call the following morning from the officer telling me to go with my gut instinct if you have the feeling you are doing wrong you better go with it. no more hunting at that feeder creek for me ever. my son thought it was cool that he let us off a ticket. by the way would of been 1500.00 just thought i would mention this . the law in missouri is if it was a river of commerce at anytime it is public but feeder creeks are not !!!

Kansas Arrowhead Hunting

JMalone, I live in Olathe, Kansas. For whatever reason, Missouri is best for hunting arrowheads. Not much to speak of in this area. I either cross the state line into Missouri and walk rivers and creeks or travel two hours west to the Flint Hills.

Mill Creek and Kill Creek

JMalone, I have walked Kill Creek probably 15 times and never found anything. I was surprised to come up empty, as it appears to be an inviting spot to find arrowheads. You need to be careful on Kill Creek, as it runs near the Sunflower Ammunition Compound which is heavily patroled. As far as Mill Creek goes, I have found a few points in this creek, but it's about one point per 15 visits. It's not always an easy walk either. There are some deep spots on the creek that are tough to avoid. Hope that helps.

Ya i have come up completely empty on both kill and mill creeks. I have found a couple things on the river, but again if i had a boat I could get to some realy fricken great sand bars.

I know of a TON of great spots in the flint hills. I have boated and walked the rivers/creeks in the junction city/manhattan area time and time again.

there are so many great spots and the farmers in the area there are so open to letting you walk thier land. I also grew up on a farm there close to ft riley so I was blessed with some home turf to hunt.
