New Member in Minnesota
Hi to all,
My name is Dan and I am a new member. I joined primarily for flint knapping aspects of the forum. I started knapping back in the late 80's when I worked at a museum, in Paleontology. One of the guys I worked with started working on a clovis while we were eating lunch in the adjacent park. I asked him to show me how to do it, and the rest is history. I kind of quit knapping for a few years, but was asked to show knapping to a group of Native Americans at a culteral immersion camp they had. It resparked my interest in it. That and how rusty I had become at it. In doing some looking around the web I came across this forum and it seemed like a great place to talk to others who share the same interest. I look forward to my time on this forum and getting to know a many of you. |

Welcome aboard. Not a lot of folks from the upper midwest on here so it's good to see ya. Not to discourage you from coming here as this is a great forum but there are other sites out there dedicated to the art of flintknapping, modern flintknapping I should say where as here it is mostly the prehistoric variety.

Yeah I have a pretty keen interest in the actual artifacts as well as knapping. All the stuff I do is replication of artifacts. I don't want to do the preform copper and steel cheating you see all over with the perfect parallel flaking, but do it the way it used to be done. This is why I am interested in what you guys are finding. I have a nice point that came from the Rainy River here in Minnesota I am going to post later. It has an old impact flake to the tip that was resharpened. I think there may be a lot of stuff to find here but nobody really looks as far as I know. I don't have much luck finding stuff. A friend of mine found an awsome pipe I should post also.
